Sydney and Melbourne Among World’s Top 10 Safest Cities

If you are looking for a safe place to live, Australia is hard to beat. In January 2015, The Economist released its “2015 Safe Cities Index” and ranked two Australian cities among the safest cities in the world. Fifty cities around the globe were evaluated based upon four major safety indicators: personal safety, health security, infrastructure safety and digital security. Sydney was rated by The Economist researchers as the world’s 6th safest city of 2015, while Melbourne was named as the 9th safest city on Earth. Therefore, if safety is an important factor motivating your desire to immigrate to Australia, you may want to move to Sydney or Melbourne.

Not only are Sydney and Melbourne among the safest places to live on the planet, but they are also incredible cities to visit or reside for other reasons. For example, Melbourne was ranked in 2014 as the #1 “most livable city in the world” as well as the world’s #1 “friendliest city.” Sydney was rated in 2014 as the world’s 7th “most livable city” and was also listed as the 5th “friendliest city in the world” in 2014. Adelaide and Perth were two additional Australian cities ranked among the top 10 “most livable cities in the word” in 2014.

Since Australia is such a great place to live, boasting a strong economy, many job opportunities, beautiful beaches, friendly people and a high standard of living, it attracts immigrants and tourists from around the globe. There are approximately 200,000 people from every region of the Earth who immigrate to Australia every year, making the “Land Down Under” one of the most multicultural countries on the map. According to a report released in January 2015 by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, 28% of Australia’s population was born overseas, with the United Kingdom, New Zealand, China and India being the top four countries of origin for those who immigrate to Australia. Of course, people move to Australia from practically every point on the map, as indicated by the 16,000 Aussie permanent residents from 150 countries who became new Australian citizens in ceremonies held on “Australia Day” January 26, 2015.
