A recent survey conducted by Australian National University and published in April 2015 has found that an overwhelming majority of Aussies strongly support immigration to Australia. Researchers at Australian National University in Canberra polled 1,200 Australian adults across the country in March 2015 and discovered that nine out of every ten Aussies think people who immigrate to Australia improve the country’s society, while over 80% of Aussies believe that immigrants help to boost the Australian economy. The national survey also found that close to 70% of Aussies want immigration to Australia to either increase or to remain at its current high level.
Approximately 200,000 people from around the globe are issued a Permanent Resident (PR) Visa to Australia every year. This high level of immigration to Australia has made the “Land Down Under” one of the most multicultural countries in the world. According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (January 2015), around 25% of Australia’s population of 23.5 million people is foreign-born. The most recent Australian census (2011) further reports that half of the people living in Australia were either born overseas or have at least one parent who is foreign-born. With Australia being such a huge “melting pot” of people, cultures, religions and languages, it is no wonder that most Aussies strongly support immigration to Australia!
